Public buildings serve some of the most diverse visitor populations of any venue type. Libraries, government buildings, cultural institutions, and civic centres welcome millions of people annually — many of whom are unfamiliar with complex, multi-floor layouts, visiting infrequently, or navigating with a disability. Unlike transit or retail, these venues carry an implicit obligation to be accessible to all: they are public infrastructure. Yet most still rely on static signage, paper maps, and front-desk staff to guide visitors — systems that fail the moment someone can't read a sign, doesn't speak the language, or simply can't find anyone to ask.
